Jim McGovern founded McGovern Insurance in Belmont in 1963. Jim has been an active member of Rotary International for forty three years and is member of four different clubs including Belmont, Foster City, San Mateo and San Carlos. Although Jim is semi-retired, he comes into the office everyday and keeps himself busy with board meetings and philanthropy events. Jim is on the Board of Trustees at the College of Notre Dame de Namur in Belmont and on the Board of Trustees for the Silicon Valley Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.
Sylvia McGovern has worked in the family business since childhood. She chose insurance as a profession after her graduation from Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington. Sylvia has held the professional designation of Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) since 2004. Sylvia oversees the daily operations of the agency.
Steve S. Suissa began his insurance career at CNA Insurance Company in the late 80′s in their supply and mail room. Quickly, he progressed into CNA’s claims unit and soon after finishing college was hired by Jim McGovern, in April of 1991, as a commercial lines insurance producer. Steve has provided insurance for contractors, developers, retailers, wholesalers, the hi-tech industry, restaurants, automotive repair shops, new product developers and property owners for over twenty years. Steve holds two professional designations. He is a Certified Insurance Counselor (CIC) and a Construction Risk and Insurance Specialist (CRIS) Steve enjoys working out, running, kickboxing, hiking, hunting and just about any outdoor activity. Steve lives in Redwood City with his beautiful son and daughter.
Greg McCartney has over forty years experience in the insurance industry, including ten years with Marsh & McLennan and CIGNA before joining James E. McGovern, Inc., in 1984. Greg has extensive experience with financial insurance products including surety bonds and professional liability. He has a bachelor’s degree in Economics from St. Mary’s College and additional studies in Financial Accounting at Golden Gate University. Greg lives near La Honda with his wife of forty years. Greg’s interests include flying and amateur radio. He is active with the Flying Samaritans, the KPH historical radio station and is a director of the Peninsula Builders Exchange.
